epic fail.

So I really fail at this tumblr thing. Or at least I fail at posting stuff. I didn’t post anything at all over the summer, for crying out loud! Fail.

So, this summer. I went home to my parents’ house, in the city and state where I grew up, spent most of May there. Then came back here to play in the orchestra pit for a musical production for most of June. A family friend got married in July, so I went home again for that. My teenage sister came back here with me to visit for about 2 weeks before my parents came down to help me move into my new apartment. It is AWESOME here. I’m living with my two best friends, and we’re far off campus, so it’s a hell of a lot quieter. It also just has that grown-up feel, there’s not a whole lot of students here. We also have a lot more room here than before. I mean, hellooooo walk-in closet! I can honestly say I’ve NEVER had one of those before. So this week, classes start back at my school, and for the first time, I will not be walking into the fine arts building on Wednesday, because this semester I’m doing my student teaching! I’ll start out at a middle school, then switch to an elementary school halfway through the semester. I’m excited, but I’m also getting really nervous, especially about starting at the middle school. Middle school is rough, man.

Since I’ve been at my new apartment I haven’t been doing much, unpacking and organizing quite a bit. Running errands a lot, seemed like every time I thought I had all I needed, I thought of something else I wanted/needed for the apartment. Then, I got into True Blood. My best friend has the first 3 seasons on DVD, and then I scoured the interwebz to catch up on season 4. It’s … a very unique show, haha. If you don’t know me in person, I’ve always been into the whole supernatural thing, whether it’s in a movie, book, TV show or game. So the recent vampire craze is something I have no problem with, haha. (Twilight is getting soooooo old, though) I also got into Teen Wolf at the urging of my bff and my little sister, and it’s surprisingly good. Not as good as some of my other favorite shows, but I’ll watch it again next summer.

I also recently discovered that one of my favorite shows from when I was growing up is available to watch on hulu. All 5 seasons, 1.5 of which I never saw. Soooo…I stayed up most of last night watching some of my favorite episodes before beginning to watch where I left off, 7 years ago. Wow. I just realized how old that makes me feel. Haha! I’m not going to tell you what the show is, because to be honest, I’m kind of embarrassed. >.< But I can’t believe some of the hilarious dialogue in this old kid’s show! I’ve been cracking up a lot at half of the lines, and I’m at a part of the season I’m currently watching where it’s all tense and doom-and-gloom, which makes some of these one-liners even funnier. Seven years ago, I probably would have gotten mad at the character who turned my favorite character’s flaw into a joke. Now, I cracked up laughing so hard because it’s true! He really does talk waaaaayyyy too much when action is called for. Besides embarrassingly rewatching an old favorite show, this discovery also led me to reach out to my childhood best friend. She and I used to watch this and many other shows together, and we were both really into writing. In fact, I found the skeleton of a fanfiction for this show buried deep in my external hard drive.

Speaking of fanfiction, that reminds me of what else I did this summer, video games! I’ve been playing Guild Wars as usual, I’ve had the game for a whole year now! I also got really into Dragon Age this summer. I started out with Dragon Age: Origins. I really really really liked it. The Awakening expansion was alright, but I probably didn’t like it as much as I could have because I was so anxious to finish it and move onto Dragon Age 2. When I finally did, I was blown away. I loved Dragon Age:Origins, and had heard that some people who loved Origins hated DA2, so I definitely expected something a bit different. I. Loved. It. It was a perfect merge of all the awesome things in DAO and new things, and a new plotline. Plus, Fenris. Maker’s breath, Fenris. Haha.

Well anyways, that’s what I’ve been up to! I can’t promise I’ll post or even reblog very regularly, but I usually manage to look at my tumblr dashboard every two days or so. Sometimes more.

Anyways, I’ve got to get some sleep before my student teaching orientation tomorrow.

So, I’m kinda failing at this song-of-the-day thing. Meh, oh well. Song-of-the-every-otherish-day? Whatev.

Today’s song is Panic! at the Disco’s new single, The Ballad of Mona Lisa.

My best friend showed me the kickass steampunk video for it, and I loved the song. My favorite lyric…

“Say what you mean, tell me I’m right…”

Sidenote: I wish there was a way to have a caption on a “quote” post. Or maybe there is, and I’m just being super blonde.

365dayswithamusecrazycellist asked: Yeah, I know. xD. I've lived here all my life and I've pretty much been to every UKSO concert that has ever been held since I can remember. XD. I remember all these said concerts and more - I just wasn't playing in them.

Well, I played in the Enigma Variations two years ago. Enigma is one of my favourite orchestral works ever. It kind of is my #1 pick, but I can't really just pick ONE to be my favourite. Hahha.

And about the requiem - YES! The bits that I have listened to have been absolutely gorgeous! I am kind of sad that I can't sing it with the choir, though, I must admit. But I feel like I'll enjoy it a bit more playing. That and I'm more needed in the cello section than in the choir... seeing as how that is kind of why I'm here. xD.

Oh wow, that’s cool! I lived in Mt Sterling for 2 years before starting at UK, but I never went to anything. Well, an LPO concert or two.

Oh, Enigma. <3 I love that piece too. I get what you mean about not being able to pick just one! Off the top of my head though, my #1 would have to be Beethoven 6. I’ve loved that piece since before I knew what it was. Oh, Fantasia.

You are going to LOVE women’s choir more and more each semester. I wish I’d joined my freshman year, I didn’t join until the beginning of my junior year. Dr. H is AMAZING.

365dayswithamusecrazycellist asked: Ohh! Okay! I remember you! Hi!! :). Hahha. I haven't met but one person who has and uses a tumblr here at UK! Like... I know more people than that have one and use it, but I haven't found them xD.

I agree about him just being extremely sweet. I kind of just wanted to give him a hug. He was so nice and sweet and humble.

I think my sophmore, junior, and senior years won't be able to compete with this year, orchestra wise.... How could it get better?! WEG, Carnegie, Operas, Perlman, AH!

I wanted to hug him too! So nice.

Well, if the orch program continues being awesome like it has been, they might be able to compete. I thought the same about my freshman year. We did the same NYC trip in November (except we played appalachian spring with the candide), opened the season with Beethoven 5, had Lynn Harrell as a guest in feb, and the benefit concert was an epic Russian one. Then sophomore year we went to washington dc, had Gil Shaham in feb and played the Elgar Enigma variations, and played Beethoven 1 and 9 that April. Junior year we had Mark O’Connor in the fall, played Mahler 1 in Dec, Sarah Chang and the Rite of Spring in Feb, and the Berlioz requiem in April.

I am sooooo looking forward to the Brahms requiem. #4 is the best. I know we’ve done snippets of it in Women’s choir, but if you haven’t heard a recording of it, you should look it up on Naxos. It will make you melt.

365dayswithamusecrazycellist asked: Thanks so much! :). And I know, right?!?! This may sound dumb - but I still don't know who you are. :(. Besides the fact that you are in the orchestra, too xD.

The concert was amazing!! I agree - Mendelssohn isn't my favourite but he played it so amazingly. I loved his playing and I love the fact that he was so NICE. He didn't at all give off any too-good-for-a-university-orchestra vibe. I really adore him now. BAH! :).

Oh, haha! I guess I haven’t said anything too specific on here yet, idk if I’ve even said my name! Haha, it’s Tiffany. We hung out in NYC, with Mary and Cristina too. I know, Perlman was so nice, and helpful, and just overall sweet.

musical high

I love that feeling you get after an amazing concert. It’s sort of like when you’re between tipsy and drunk, and you’re feeling great, like you can do anything you want. Which usually gets you into trouble, then. The great thing about this musical high is no impaired judgment! I just want to dance around my room, and sing the gorgeous melodies of the pieces my colleagues and I just played. Plus, I’ve also got the yay-I-feel-pretty thing going on, I wore my contacts for the first time in forever and did my makeup all pretty, and wore a pretty dress that fit way better than the last time I wore it! Yay! So I really want to dance and twirl around while singing, haha. Anyways, I missed song of the day yesterday. Oops. I’m skipping it. Today’s song will be the Mendelssohn Violin concerto that we just played with Itzhak Perlman. It’s not my favorite violin concerto ever, but he just has a joyous way of playing that I loved so much.

365dayswithamusecrazycellist asked: So I search for "Sibelius" on Tumblr, and your post comes up - I found it ironic that someone else in the orchestra was posting about our concert on Saturday!! (I was about to make a post about it.. kind of xD). I'm in the orchestra, too! Cello... obviously, by my name. xD.
-Becca

Hey! Yeah, obviously I just got into tumblr. I like this project 365 thing you’ve got going, sounds pretty cool! How about that concert tonight! I’ll be up for hours on the high of it, haha.
